Staying Alive

It was almost a week ago that I was on vacation; sitting exactly where I am at this very moment: in my bed, mid-morning on a Wednesday. That day I was stress-free—I had not a care in the world—and I planned to enjoy every moment of my little break!
A girlfriend I hadn’t seen in a while was sojourning here for a few days before heading back to where she now resides. It was time for all work to subside. Yup, I had made up my mind, “I’m gonna live this weekend to the fullest! Yayyy!”
And so said, so done!
Almost every day that she was here, we found something to do together! It seemed like ages since I had done anything like this! We went out every day, most nights and when we didn’t, we either rested or indulged in some good conversations.

Pedicures, manicures, karaoke, eats and drinks…the usual stuff girls do
when they get together. But what made it even better, was that there was no reason for me to be antsy or anxious or distracted from the fun at hand.
Usually I find it hard to enjoy myself when in the back of mind there are things yet to be done or ironed out; but my mom (the darling that she is) took care of my son with no hassle, my partner took us wherever we needed to go with no complaint, and life was just good!
I was relaxed, well rested and ready to take on the world when my friend left. It was exactly what I needed. A bit of unction for my function—revitalisation and physical renewal. And I even got some exercise.
We get so caught up, bogged down, consumed and overwhelmed by issues concerning work, family, church and the like that we often forget to STAY ALIVE. By that I mean, we forget to enjoy the precious life that we have been given, and we have each only been given one. We are not supposed to live to die but live to LIVE! Get me?
Many of us are DEAD! No life is left in us because we allow our family, friends, our work to drain every ounce of energy out of us.
There’s no time to enjoy you, because of a deadline. We sit down and put on weight, endure headaches, all to satisfy our bosses, coworkers and other authority figures who may just be looking out for themselves. But guess what?
God did not intend for us to be in a constant state of mental fatigue caused by the cares of the world.
YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF YOU so that you can take care of what God has entrusted you with. If you are unable to function in the establishment or institution with which you are employed, you can guarantee that you will be easily replaced. A couple hours of your-time cannot kill! I assure you.
Get to know yourself, stay mentally healthy, go out with a friend, leave the kids with a trusted caretaker and live a little. When around you may seem to crumble, don’t crumble with it. Take some advice from the Bee Gees and stay alive!
Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother, You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive. Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’, And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive.
