3 Tips To Making Your Fitness A Priority During COVID.

Updated: Sep 13, 2020

With the presence of COVID-19, we’ve all been trying to find ways to cope, to manage, and to get by with our sanity as intact as we can in the truly unprecedented time all of us have found ourselves within. In light of this, one of the things that may have been impacted is our personal fitness.

Before all of this happened, maybe you’d go to the gym 3-5 times a week, have a structured routine of meal planning, & go to therapy. Then COVID-19 hit, and most if not all of that, was put on pause.

Even though here in Barbados we do not have an exorbitant amount of cases, we are still living in the COVID-19 era. While businesses, restaurants, etc are opening back up, this is still a new normal we have to adjust to even though we may be returning to some semblance of normalcy as we once knew it. Though this is a new normal, our fitness of body, of mind, and of spirit are all important and all need to be taken care of. With that being said, here are some ways that can hopefully help with that.

1. Set a Routine

Setting a routine for your fitness will give you structure and consistency. There are free apps you can download, and tons of videos on youtube you can utilize in order to do workouts at home if you don’t feel comfortable going back to the gym as yet. Determine what time of day you’ll exercise and how often during the week. This gives you something to look forward to, and it also helps to keep you accountable. As for your mind, there are apps like Headspace and Shine that can aid with your Mental Health and Wellness daily, and they are free. All it takes sometimes is 3-5 minutes to center yourself and get your mind right. As for your spirit, spending time praying and reading your Bible daily in the mornings or the evenings depending on your schedule and what feels good for you is something you can put into practice.

2. Decide on A Healthy Eating Plan

The purpose of food is to fuel us and our bodies, but a lot of the time we can tend to eat for pleasure as opposed to nutrition. Maintaining a balanced eating regime is healthy and is key to your overall wellness. You can indulge of course, but ensure that you’re primarily getting a healthy serving of water, fruits and vegetables to keep your engine running smoothly.

3. Feed Your Spirit

Finally, setting your spiritual fitness as a priority is vital. COVID-19 has been draining for all of us in various ways, and we need to keep our spirits as fed and as encouraged as we possibly can. Heartache and despair are prevalent on such deep levels in the world today, and you have to take care of yourself spiritually to ensure you don’t drown under the current. Along with your own devotions, you can tune into sermons, podcasts, or spiritual teachings to aid you in taking care of feeding your spirit well.

COVID-19 may still be here, but you still deserve to take care of yourself in the midst of it, so I hope that you will! Tell us how you liked this post. Don't forget to give it a like or leave a comment below!
